I recently purchased a 94 with 17” full octagonal barrel in 25-35

serial number lookup equates to 1915 production date

what should I be looking for to verify this little guy is original?

Hello Bob,

There are a lot of things to look at to determine if it is factory original “Short” Rifle, or more likely, a cut-down Sporting Rifle.

1. Exactly how far from the muzzle is the front sight dovetail cut?

2. Is the face of the muzzle blued or in the white?

3. What is the distance from the muzzle to the magazine tube retaining ring (center)?

4. What is the length of the forend stock?

5. What is the distance from the frame ring to the rear sight dovetail cut?

6. What is the precise length of the barrel (breech face to muzzle face)?

Bert
