An old acquaintance just brought me a Winchester Rifle and a Luger to make an offer on. I have been collecting for over 25 years, but my interest has always been old Mausers and Rolling blocks. These are extremely difficult for me to determine a reasonable offer price. I will be adding photos later either today or tomorrow. The 94 is as follows: SN is 4979X, 20 inch barrel octagon, Take -Down Model, No saddle Ring, About 40-50 % blue with no visible pitting, and with a bright clean bore. The wood has barely visible remains of checkering and a deluxe pistol grip buttstock. No cracks or gouges on the wood, but as stated the checkering is worn smooth. Most unusual is the DOUBLE SET TRIGGERS. I have the 1st opportunity to purchase this rifle and want to make a fair offer, But I need a base to start that is fair but affordable to me.

I am sure you will get some help to place a value on this rifle. I am just going to let you know that s/n 49796 had the serial number applied on 10-22-1898 and shipped out on 12-28-1898 so, as far as your s/n, it was probably applied the same day. This will also qualify it as a true antique based on the BATF rules. Looking forward to seeing photos of this short rifle.

Thanks, but there is no such button on any of my screens. Even though I have been a paid member 9178 since Oct 2013 I haven’t been posting much just reading and researching. Still I should be noted as a member not “Guest”. Maybe that should be changed.I actually renewed my membership today but It only expired a few days ago.
I just looked at your membership and I should of looked earlier. If your not at a member level you have to use photobucket but they should be able to get your membership straightened out.

wsmrto – I also collect Lugers but am by no means an expert given all the variations that exist. I can direct you to other resources for help with the Luger if you’d like.

Greg: Thanks, The Luger is truly original and all matching #s 4 digit 318X chambered for 30 Mauser. It has maybe 60% blue left and the checkering on the grips are nearly worn smooth. All markings are clear and deeply stamped the year is 1915 and is DWM. Barrel is 4in and mirror clean. Has one unnumbered alum mag with alum end cap. Action is stiff and needs a cleaning and lube.
Just a note to those who provided such great help on my researching the Win 1894 Short Rifle pictured above. Thank you all very much. I have purchased both the Winchester and the Luger 1915 DWM Military contract. Special Thanks to Bert who made evident his vast knowledge of the old Winchesters with his guidance.

wsmrto,
Sorry for the late response. You do have a quite scarce 1894 short rifle in a great configuration. The double set triggers by themselves are a rarely found feature on the ’94 but when added to a short barreled rifle its even better.
I have added this rifle to my 1894 short rifle survey. You mention the remains of checkering but I cant see it at all in the pictures. If its there, I’m guessing its the I pattern that was lighter to begin with.
Thanks for sharing,
~Gary~
