I have a SRC SN- 923842, I believe made in 1928. I cannot find anything about .45WCF. Is is the same as .45-60?

I paid $2100 for it.

Thanks

First, there is/was no such thing as a “45 WCF”. The Model 92 was manufactured in 25-20 WCF, 32 WCF, 38 WCF, and 44 WCF. The 45-60 WCF was one of the cartridges made for the Model 1876, and it is way too long to for the Model 92 action.

Serial number 923842 was manufactured at least several years earlier than 1928. My estimate is 1922.

There were a small number of Model 92 Carbines sold to South America (Brazil and Argentina) that were converted to shoot the 45 ACP cartridge after they left the U.S.A. I suspect that is what you have.

Thank you, sir. It does indeed say 44 W.C.F.

44 W.C.F. = 44-40 Winchester

Interesting personal experience from South America:

I grew up in South America in the 50’s and 60’s as a diplomatic brat.  I was in my teens in Argentina in the early 60’s and got to spend some time occasionally at a “friend-of-a-friend’s” estancia.  We would often go out and plink with a .45 cal Winchester lever action. I knew nothing about Winchesters in those days but it was a 45 cal carbine (light shorter barrel) and for several years I saved some spent cartridges that had .45 stamped on them, though I don’t remember if 45 Colt or 45 ACP.  I do remember that my friend’s dad has a handgun that would fire the same bullets.  The interesting thing about this carbine was that everyone down there knew it as the 45 cal 30-30!

Michael (2bit) has surveyed a number of the Argentine converted Model 92s in .45 caliber, and if we can get his attention on this topic, I suspect that he can provide a more informed answer to this topic.
