Hello all,

A friend of mine in New Zealand is looking at a Model 1886 sporting rifle which is chambered for the relatively rare 38-70 cartridge.  According to Madl there were only 1167 out of the total production of 156,599 rifles.  Can somebody tell me please when this cartridge was introduced?

Thanks

Michael

If your friend would like a matching 38-70 hand loader to go with it, shoot me a pm.

Make sure it’s the real deal.  A .38-70 handloading tool was offered on eBay awhile ago and when enlarged, one could see .38-70 was stamped over the original markings on the vintage tool.

He missed out on the gun as a result of not being aggressive enough.  His words.  Thanks for your help.
