In case anyone is interested, I found this model 1885 on a local gun sales web site.  I have no connections to this.

Looks like a damn fair price to me, if all the claims about it are true.

The seller is full of you-know-what… that rifle does not have “7 special order features” as he claims. The 28-inch barrel is the standard length for the 32 WCF caliber. The 1/2 octagon barrel was a no cost option. Finally, the “tear drop Target Lever” is an aftermarket add-on.

In regards to his claim “not many Winchesters, even deluxe models had XXX wood as it was the most costly upgrade.“, that too is grossly in error.  For the Single Shot rifles, XXX wood was standard on the Special Sporting Rifles, Special Single Shot Rifles, and Schuetzen Rifles. In total, Winchester manufactured nearly 5,000 Single Shots with XXX wood.

i saw and read the same ad, and thought it was over advertized. i was in no danger of buying as the 85, s are not my cup of tea.
