I have a Winchester model 100 rifle s/n 125xxx which is a 1965 rifle. These rifles were only offered in .308, .243 and .284 calibers. However the rifle I have is chambered in 7mm-08. How is this possible? Can anyone provide any information on this rifle and why it is chambered in a caliber that was never offered.

OfflineWithout seeing it, it is almost certain to be an aftermarket barrel or a modified original barrel. I believe the 708 cartridge was offered commercially by Remington around 1980. The model 100 was discontinued in the early 1970s. It seems improbable the cartridge and model were offered together.
