New guy here, hopefully you all can help.
I over took a project from my BIL that his father has started about 50 years ago. He rebarreled a M92 Winc. from .38-40 to .44 mag. I got a cigar box full of parts and an unfinished stock to start with. I got all the internal parts put together but it won’t feed a round up. It hangs up at the chamber. Does the same with .38-40 rounds. It chambers and functions if you stuff one in the barrel, just won’t feed up from the mag.!! Seems like its not pushing up the rear of the round through the cartridge guides!!
The carrier look’s like it’s coming all the way up, it hits the bottom of the right cartridge guide. I had to seat the bullet deeper to clear (it’s a dummy). The bolt body itself is new, well 50 years new. I think Numrich sold conversion kits years ago. It extracts and ejects perfectly when you stuff one the chamber. It actually looks like the rear of the case hangs up on the ejector, but it still would not feed with the ejector removed.
The difference in rim diameter is not that great, about .001
It also started to stove pipe when I work the action with “vigor”
Also seems like the left cartridge guide/stop spring is either week or the tip is broken off, just doesn’t seem right. I also installed it the so the curve goes on the inside and then it didn’t work at all.
Any ideas??
Posted in repair section also.
