This morning I had the close-coupled trigger system out of an 1894 .32 SP. On the lower left of the tang, were the numbers: 987. Following them were two more numbers that had exes through them. The 987 matched numbers elsewhere; the two cancelled numbers were no where else. The wood is rather normal, and the exes were not the type for indicating a higher grade stock.
Are the two cancelled numbers due to a mistake? If so, how often does this show up on 1894’s?

what it sounds like is you have some old assemble numbers that were changed and a new one put on. That is common if the gun was sent back to the factory for rework.
