I have recently joined the Winchester Collector’s Association and would be interested in how to find a Winchester 1873 that I sold. I have a letter on the gun that states who owned it and that it shot a horse rustler from a guy on horse back at about 100 yards and made him ride low in the saddle. I have the serial number and the description of the gun. What is the best way to find this gun to get the information back with it. The gun was sold to Gander Mountain and they lost the paperwork for it. Now they are out of business.

Thanks

I have been surveying 73’s for many years and may have the gun recorded if I saw it. What is the serial number? Posting the serial number here will help others spot it along with its configuration and anything unusual about it. Pictures if you have any.

The 1873 rifle’s serial number is 115373A. The rifle has a octagon barrel with a beach front sight and is in the caliber of 44WCF. The wood is lighter in color than most. I will try to find the time to look for the letter and the pictures of the gun. I saw it last in Hattiesburg Mississippi in about 2017. The gun was used on a horse ranch in Douglas county Wyoming.

Thanks

I don’t have it in my survey. I assume its a 24″ barrel standard rifle with blued receiver with full magazine. I added it and put a note with it that your looking for the owner. All I have to get a hold of you is your user name for this site.

Chipslinger-

You may want to post an ad in the Collector seeking information about the whereabouts of this 1873. It may be noticed by a member who doesn’t frequent the forum.
