I have an opportunity to purchase a pair of M71’s from a long time friend.
The early one is S/N 2678 and has been refurbished by a Portland Gunsmith at some point. It has a receiver sight mounted and has checkered wood
The later one is S/N 14507 and is in original condition with a bolt peep sight.
Basically looking for opinions on value for these two? I realize putting a price on the refurb will be more difficult, but I am sure some of you have encounter this and may be able to provide some insight.
Thanks in advance,

Here’s one that was refinished.
Thanks Ian,
If I am correct S/N 2678 would be 1936 production and S/N 14507 would be 1938 production
Obviously would not want to get into the refurb too deep, but it appears to be nicely done.

August 1936, and December 1937.
S/N 2678 has been reblued, the No. 98A bolt-peep removed, the receiver frame drilled & tapped for the Redfield receiver sight, and the sling studs are aftermarket items. Quite frankly, it is at best a $1,000 “shooter” grade rifle.
S/N 14507 is a Standard rifle (long tang), in reasonably decent condition. The value is approximately $2,400.

Thank you Bert, I appreciate the dates of production that you provided and the valuation estimate.
I have not handled either of these in person and honestly did not notice that the bolt peep sight had been removed until you pointed it out.

The fact that I have looked at and handled several thousand Model 71 rifles in the past 25-years helps…
