Guys,
I recently purchased a Model 94 standard rifle, round barrel, full mag, crescent butt stock, in 30 WCF. Serial # 995016. It has a trap door butt plate. Another member has an identical rifle previously posted on the forum, Serial# 992036, also made 1926. Just the other day I noticed on guns international another identical rifle, Serial# 99xxxx, I was unable to read the rest of the number in the picture but the seller stated the rifle was made 1926. It has been stated that the trap door butt plate on a Model 94 rifle was a “rare” special order option. So with the 3 rifles mentioned above I can’t believe that this was a coincidence and maybe there was an order placed for a special purpose at that time.
Therefore, I would ask that you check to see if any of your rifles match the above mentioned rifles just to see if there are more and if so how many from @1926? I am curious.
Thank you for taking the time,
Nick

Hello I am also trying to gather more info on a 1926 model 94 I have with a 26″ octagon barrel crescent butt stock with trap door. Its stamped model 94 on tang and barrel. I also have heard the trap door was a special order option. Wondered if anyone has anymore information, Thanks
I have documented (8) of them in my research survey, all manufactured in 1926 or 1927. I am not of the opinion that they were “special” order. Instead, Winchester was using up left over Model 1873 butt plates. Production of the Model 1873 officially ended in 1923, and Winchester had leftover trapdoor butt plates still in the parts bins. In 1926, Winchester decided to use up the leftover Model 1873 butt plates on Model 94 Rifles. I would like to know what the serial number is on your Model 94 Rifle so that I can add it to research survey.

Here’s the one currently on Guns International. Too bad for the poor refinish.Don
I agree about the poor refinish. Made me nauseous to look at it. Particularly the barrel finish. In fact, it sort of looked like vomit.
