Trying to learn a few things: This is from a very late 1942 model 94

OK, Type 7 marking, looks pretty good except, looks thin to me, would this be a concern or is this pretty common?

Another thing I notice is that even though this is a Type 7 marking ( no lines) the Winchester marking looks more like a Type 6 ( stubby legs on “R”), are things like this a concern to Winchester collectors or am I over analyzing things?

These are just basic newbie questions, don’t want to analyze the actual gun, just this one picture, picked at random to ask my question.

thanks- Vern

Hello Vern,

The lettering does look a bit “thin” as you point out.  This could be due to the tang being buffed and refinished.  What does the receiver proof stamp look like?

Hi Michael

Thanks for the reply, didn’t really want to get into a full gun nit picky review and cause controversy, that is done a lot on some of the other forums and I have been right in the middle of it at times, the feeding frenzy is a little boring to me now days,  I am just trying to learn about Winchesters.

To answer your question the receiver proof looks too good to be true as there are rounding on the edges of the frame suggesting a “restoration” at some point and some use of after market proof stamps.

The owner refuses to answer any of my questions so, in my way of thinking they are aware of the issues and it’s a mute point, and I wont deal with them.

thanks

Vern,

If the owner/seller will not answer every question and submit what ever photo you ask for then just tell him to take a hike and keep shopping.  If you want to keep things a little lower key just PM me any time.  Yes the “Pissin’ match” sometimes does get tiresome.  But there is also value in other opinions.  Nobody is always 100% correct.

How late is this carbine? I have late # 1,327,444 ( 4-1-1942) a 32 Special in 98% condition. I cannot get to it right now as it is in the back of my safe. I will pull it if you do not get answers you seek. Let me know. Big Larry
