OfflineHello everyone, my grandpa recently passed away and left his Model 1894 to me. It was made in 1962. I know very little about these rifles, but after doing some research, I was happy to learn about the quality of pre 1964 models. I love this gun already, and I took it apart for a deep cleaning as I watched tutorial videos on YouTube. The cleaning process has gone very well so far. Luckily, I have found no rust and I would describe the condition as very good to excellent, apart from a few knocks on the butt stock, and the worst damage I have found so far – a broken firing pin. I’ve been shopping around online for a pre 64 firing pin and have found some on eBay, but how can I be certain that these firing pins are indeed pre 64? Would I be better off buying a modern reproduction? I’m hoping some experts out there can tell me if modern reproduction firing pins are a durable as pre 64 firing pins. My fear is that, like most things made these days, they are not made as strong as things made several decades ago. Any advice is much appreciated!

OfflineWelcome! I am deeply sorry for your loss as my grandfather passed down a plethora of wisdom that I am now only appreciating as I approach his age. He has sadly also passed but we would have MUCH to talk about today., if that was possible…..
I do not have prolific knowledge regarding the (very common) Winchester model you are asking about but there are folks on this forum that will gladly jump in with answers as soon as they rise from their naps….. 😉

OnlineMy go-to source for this type of part is Homestead. They are currently out of the firing pins for the 94 but if you request they will notify you when they get one in. I have utilized this service with good results.
