My dad recently passed away, and I inherited his 1957 Model 94. It’s chambered in .30-30, and has *never been fired*. I have the case and original two boxes of ammo purchased with the rifle in 1958, and a lace-up recoil pad/but cover, also purchased with the rifle. I also have the original sales receipt ($80 for a Model 94 at Sears, and $7 for the ammo). the rifle is in as new condition, and the only thing I don’t have is the original box.

One other thing – it has a NRA decal on the butt stock (applied at the factory?). I’m sure it’s not a commemorative gun.

John,

What is the serial number, and what was the date it was purchased? In as new condition, it is worth approximately $1,200, and maybe a bit more.

Yes, the Carbine as described by John is worth that much.  Keep in mind that the original sales receipt adds value to the gun.

I have a question for you… What is “drippy mint”? Seriously.

I think it is a mint that has been unwrapped and sucked on a little bit?  Just a guess…….

Well in that case, it is not worth much at all!  Who wants an old sticky piece of partially consumed candy that was formerly owned someone elseFrown

A collector friend of mine coined that term. Even the term mint used on firearms is not quite right. It is a coinage term. Maybe we need a different way to set conditions on guns. MS-60 thru MS-70?  Now, how much is my MS-70 1960 30-30 carbine worth?   Thanks, Big Larry

I would guess “Drippy Mint” means that its a gun that is so nice that everybody is drooling on it to the point its dripping off. I hope you towel it off often or put in a glass case.

You nailed it, Bob.  With no photo posted over this long week, I’d bet by Wednesday last, many members were already foaming at the mouth.  Likely by now, their wives have fitted them with a drool-cups.

Perhaps we should rate Winchesters on the amount of drool they prompt–ounces per minute seems about right.
