It’s not the condition, it’s not the chambering, there’s not special order features, it’s not an antique, the bore description suggests it likely wouldn’t be much of a shooter, repair to the stock…. ??

I have never been able to make any sense out of gunbroken auctions. I suspect a little hocus-pocus on this one.
I normally would on this one, but the seller is a very respectable guy. I think in the case of this piece, the buyer really did pay that hammer price. And that’s what leaves me scratching my head.

OfflineI suspect the NR that threw in the bid last minute was a foreign troll and was phishing for my seller info. The name, address and phone number were all fabricated. I got on the line with gunbroker fraud ASAP and they agreed and took down the account. My guy at gunbroker said it had a $5 million bid. The auction was legitamate until that clown hopped in…. Albeit a $3000 gun on a good day. Sadly, this has happened before. I wish people wouldn’t always jump to monkey business on the sellers part, but they usually do.

OfflineI am glad you were able to get an actual person on the phone with Gunbroker. That is not always easy to do. I wish there were a way on GB to block ANY bidder with ZERO or negative feedback ratings, by means of a setting in preferences, as that would prevent most of the phishing behavior.
I am truly sorry your auction got hijacked in this way. Certainly not fair to you as an honest seller.

Austin –
Thanks for the additional information. I know we are often not very sympathetic to gunbroker sellers, but we should keep in mind that they frequently have to put up with a lot of shenanigans from “buyers.” I still find the results of this auction remarkable given it looks like there was a legitimate bidder willing to pay one increment below the troll’s bid. I agree, that is a $3000 rifle on a good day.

Regarding blocking NR bidders all together – this is not fair either. You and I were once NR rated on Gunbroker. I have had plenty of NR bidders buy several guns in one week and turn out to be a new collector. Which is what we all want for this collecting community.
I’m glad to see you as a member here, I follow many of your auctions and am a WACA “newbie” compared to some of the royalty around here 🙂
I’m proud of my 9 rating LOL but I just got into these lever guns last year….they are so great!
