I know this late pre-war model 94 carbine is nice, but never thought it would’ve sold for this much.Just happened to notice that the instruction manual is a later date than the rifle. Winchester’s Corporate name in 1941 was Division of Western Cartridge Co. Not Division of Olin Industries Inc. Maybe the rifle was not shipped until 1945. Nice rifle.

Dick,
Good observation on the instruction manual. I noticed that the Winchester corporate name on the box end label is marked correctly for the year though as “A Division of Western Cartridge Company”. Beautiful carbine, and would be hard to find a nicer one from that era.

Here’s a picture of my pre-war. It’s an early 1938. The stock and forend are more of a reddish brown than the one Craig sold, and the bluing is more black colored.

Here is one of my pre-war carbines. This one was serialized November 1940 and it came with the original receipt dated 11/15/41, and half a box of Winchester Silver Tips. Winchester rifle $35.65, 1 box of 32 spec cartridges $1.46.
Notice the serial number written on the receipt near where the price of the gun is written.

Very nice carbine James.Al
Thank you, Al. Yours looks very nice, too, with the box and sales slip, no less!!! Yours also looks to have the same or similar black like finish and exact same color wood. Wonder why the bluing and wood on ours is so markedly different than the subject carbine?

James,I don’t know why the difference, they are all from the same era. Maybe different camera lighting on Craigs?
Al
That could be, I guess. He and Austin get some very bright bluing on the Winchester rifles they display in their auctions. Me, I can stand out in the brightest sunshine and mine is still black like! go figure, huh?!

Al,
This is the label on my NIB 1949 for comparison.
