Hi –  This is probably a pretty easy question for you guys but can you tell me why a Model 1892 has the small hole at the top on the right side of the receiver?

Thanks

The hole is for removal of the pin that connects the lever to the bolt. There is a plug screw on the opposite side of the receiver that has to be removed to get the pin out. The hammer, locking lugs, lower tang, etc have to be removed prior to removing the pin to get the bolt out of the receiver.

No.  On the Model 1886 the extractor pin can be removed when the breechbolt is pushed nearly all the way rearward.
