It’s in the letterable range and the BATF didn’t even bother to check for the original configuration? What a joke…If I were the seller I would remove that reserve ASAP.
If the ATF letter is legit, shouldn’t the serial number be on the list that the ATF publishes?
If the ATF really inspected and approved that gun, looks like they will approve anything sent in to them. I guess it’s possible that they gun letters as a 14″ gun and that a gunsmith did this improvement to it but I’d bet against that.

All I can think of is that the ATF didn’t physically see the “Carbine “ and possibly only one overall photo without any closeups. Only a written letter with a general photo. .? It’s anybody’s guess.
To get ATF clearance you actually have to send the firearm to the ATF for inspection. If it’s deemed as original configuration, the ATF will issue a clearance letter and send the firearm back to you. If it’s not original (barrel shortened outside the factory) it is illegal to own and you’ll never get it back. In the case of the subject rifle, the ATF letter is a fake or the ATF flat out didn’t do their job.

I still believe the ATF letter is a fake. The gun in question is not listed on the 2018 ATF C&R listing https://www.atf.gov/file/128116/download

Too many warning buzzers, bells and whistles going off here. I’m with Al, if it’s not on the C&R list something (OK, a LOT of things) don’t add up. IF the letter is legit it refers to another firearm and this one has had the SN altered. Either way, I wouldn’t want to be in the same room with this gun, let alone offer it for sale on a public site.
