Hi there. I’m looking for any help on identifying a Winchester 1895 in 30-40. Rifle appears to be a sporting with shotgun style but plate, but has a saddle ring on the receiver. Also looks like it was drilled for side receiver sights looking at holes in the left side of the receiver. Fella asked to trade for an ar10 I have. I’ve got a soft spot for old Winchesters and this has caught my eye. Working on getting a serial number from him now.

Many ’95s were ordered with Lyman #21 rcvr. sights, but I don’t think this is one of them, because of that hole drilled into the lettering; that pretty much takes it out of the “collector” category. I also think the stocks are repros. Still, I’d take it over an AR.

Unless your AR 10 is worth less than $750, you had better be asking for some additional cash with the trade.
