My dad recently acquired a model 1892 carbine with a half mag. It letters as such along with being a .44 WCF that shipped in 1897. It is very light, I’m wondering if it may also have gumwood stocks. I’ve tried to attach pictures but my files must be too large.

So how rare are half mag carbines?

They are not rare down here. From what I’ve seen, full mag 1892 SRCs and rifles are rarer here in Australia.

Heaps of half mags, 32wcf seems to be the most common.

I am sure Michael will chime in soon with some stats.

I have not seen many with gumwood stocks though.

Good morning,

Saddle Ring carbines outfitted with half magazines are not rare at all by any measure.  I will eventually be able to give an approximate % of the total population which was produced in this configuration.  If you want you can send me the photos of the rifle as [email protected] and I will be happy to take a look at it and answer any further questions you might have.

Thanks

Michael
