In some of the photos of the receiver, it looks as if the screw holes are slightly cratered.  And if they appear cratered, isn’t that a sure sign that a bit of refinishing has occurred?

Otherwise, the rifle looks pretty nice.

My intent is not to stir negativity regarding this auction and the seller–just trying to train my eyes in order to not toss away the bank account.

I see no signs what-so-ever of any refinishing work done on that Sporting Rifle… I think that you are seeing things that are not there.

I sat looking over the pictures late last night and thought the same. Just couldn’t get up the nerve to judge.

Guess that is one of those instances where the pupil is taught something new.  Then in anxiousness to use the new knowledge, imagines the imperfection where it doesn’t exist.

Thanks for the critique.

I certainly haven’t seen all that seller’s auctions but he seems to have pretty good stuff on the ones I’ve seen.

I agree with Bert, and as you can see from the bidding I’m sorry to say I was runner up on winning the auction. I recently purchased a 1892 deluxe from this seller and the gun in correct and even better than the description he stated.

This is one of the aspects of this WACA community that I appreciate–members speaking well of others, for the benefit of those others.
