I love this rifle. The finish is mostly gone but the bore is excellent and it handles like a Model 64. It has a Cody letter and dates to 1908. But I’m curious about what appears to be a letter “A” suffix to the serial number.

Bruce,
I am not into the 1886’s as much as many, but if Madl’s book is correct, the “A” means the rifle has transitioned to having the magazine tube thread into the receiver. At least that is what I remember from going through his soft bound book some time ago. Should another, 1886 expert in particular, weigh in, I would defer to their knowledge.

Tim is correct, threaded mag tube. Congrats, a nice looking Extra-lite!
