I’m looking at a 1903 mfg. Model 1894 takedown rifle chambered in .30 WCF. It has the close-coupled double set triggers and is overall in good condition. I intend to shoot this rifle. I have an 1873 with a single set trigger that I had to repair in the past, but have no experience with the double set trigger. My questions are – How reliable and complex is this trigger design? If the set feature is found to be inoperable, does the trigger still function as a normal trigger?
Thanks,
Gus
Gus,
The close-couple set trigger will function without the set feature. My experience with them (on the Single Shot rifles) is that they are reliable, but they need to be kept clean. My preference is a Single Set trigger or a Schuetzen double-set trigger.
