I recently purchased an 1886 deluxe, octagonal barrel, level 5 burled walnut stock, in 90+% condition, manufactured in 1888. Now here is where it gets interesting. On the stock is a brass plate which reads “presented to C. F. Steffen by Col. William F. Cody. On the receiver the name Frank Myers is engraved, but not in a manner that looks professional. One of W.F. Cody’s nephews was named Frank Myers, but I can find no connection to C. F. Steffen. I have found other Cody Guns with similar plaques and engraving. Winchester Letter has been requested, but not yet received.
