It’s my opinion that this carbine has been refinished. No saddle ring wear and the markings, especially the proof marks look re-stamped or engraved. Compare the proof marks to other Winchesters and there’s an obvious difference.

Yes, they look funky to me. I agree, it looks like the receiver proof has been chased with a graver.
