First off, it’s an octagon barrel version. And with the engraving, provenance, deluxe aspect… I thought it was quite the piece. It sold under the low end of the auction estimate. Is there some aspect that is a detractor here that I am not honing in on?
Well, it did come within a couple grand of its low end estimate.
The huge elephant in the room is that there are many more grey haired individuals wanting to sell as they age and fewer of the younger generation who collect this stuff.
Simple supply and demand. The market is soft now. Will this continue? Unfortunately, I don’t see anything that will lead to a resurgence.

It’s a buyers’ market, Steve. If you think stuff is going too cheap you need to sign up and bid. Buy carefully, though. You may have to hold it for awhile to realize a profit.

Steve, The shotgun butt, distress in the case colors, and the flood of neat guns on the market held the price down. The estimate was close. If the guy that bought the gun for $43,000 would sell it at auction he would have to get $55,900 to break even. The auction fees make reselling expensive. When you buy a high dollar gun it’s long term deal. T/R
