I was just wondering whey carbine muzzles were crowned while rifle muzzles were left flat?

Thanks

More accurately, it was Carbines and Muskets with crowned barrels, while most (but not all) pre-WW II rifle barrels were made with a flat uncrowned muzzle face.  As to why… I do not know what the reason for the difference was.
