This may be a silly question, but will light fade the case colours on high condition winchesters over a long period of time.

I have an early 94 that the colours on the lever are bright on one side and very light on the other.( the gun sat on a mantel piece for years and never moved )

thanks

Tony,

It sure will, you usually see the right side of guns faded from displaying since the loading port side always seemed to be the best side to look at.

I assumed sunlight fades the case color as it will color from many items, however how about artificial lighting such as room or lighting from a gun cabinet?

Kevin,

I believe its the ultraviolet part of the light that fades it. I know florescent lighting has lots of ultraviolet.

LED is probably best for display lighting considering low UV and heat output.

No, no, no! The days of displaying firearms are long OVER!  BEST to secret away in a safe and pretty much keep mum about what you have stashed away.

Kevin,

I wouldn’t hide all your guns but display a few but keep the ones with high condition in the safe. I have a few guns displayed with incandescent lights and with no direct sun light but the bulk of the guns are in a gun room and safe which is dark most of the time.

Tony, all guns are on display. Can’t stand hidden gems. If I didn’t live where I felt I could have my guns on racks and in glass cabinets I’D MOVE! Of course if no one’s home they go in the vault.
