Can anyone tell me what this is? It was in the butt stock cleaning rod storage bore of an 1895 I recently purchased.

Thanks,

I thought it could be an oiler also. There’s a partition inside the tube at roughly half the length. The needle end cap has a gasket on it, the other end doesn’t. The tube and caps look to be brass with nickel plating. No markings of any kind that I can find.

I’ve seen these referred to as “pocket graphite coke oiler” in the past in various auctions. I bid on a rifle awhile back that had one similar to that in the lot (didn’t know it had two chambers) but didn’t win so didn’t pursue after that. Not sure exactly how they might be used but perhaps the two chambers are used to separate the graphite spoon from the lubricant? Or perhaps hold oil and powdered lubricant?

Looks like an oiler for a early Garand.  Other side holds a pull through bore brush.  I recently bought a later one that is clear plastic.  I got the tube, brush, chamber brush/tool and some grease for $35. Point is they don’t bring much money.

Thanks Chuck! From your tip I was able to look up the Garand Oiler, and that’s what it is. Regardless of value, it doesn’t belong in the buttstock of a Winchester.

It’s OK in a Winchester Garand.  As with most manufacturers this tube was for the early WWII guns but they never throw away a good part so could also be found in the later guns too.
