I’m interested in purchasing an antique/vintage Winchester lever action. I very much appreciate all the info that I’ve read on this site but when choosing a model I’m as interested in the authenticity as I am with whether or not the rifle will fit (suit) me.
I’ve seen pictures of the various models and notice that there are large variations in the stock drop.
does anyone know anyplace with a large enough collection that would allow me to shoulder the rifle(s) to see which one would fit me the best? I plan on shooting it and want one that I can shoulder, aim, and shoot as naturally as possible.
I guess another question would be how much do the more modern (mid century) models vary from the originals?
oh, and I don’t want, nor can afford a museum piece/safe queen. I would prefer a true Winchester that I can shoot.
I’m in Southwest Washington just for reference.
Old school wood and metal - when firearms were tools and required skill and craftsmanship to create.
