I have an 88 that was made in 1959. The barrel was marked 308 then over marked the zero with a five. I would like to know if it came from the factory as a 308 or 358.  Thanks for any help.

You have a non-factory rebored rifle.  Winchester would not have rebored & remarked a .308 barrel, instead, they would have simply installed the correct barrel from stock.

Do a chamber cast and slug the barrel.  This will help to determine what you might have?
