And take down as well. And a deluxe. I’m not going to comment on what can be believed here, but I am intrigued. Is there any truth to the assertion that there were 45 of these special ordered? If it is true, it sure not anything I have heard of. But also, I learn something new every day as well.

This is original.

– one in my possession (SN 409376, RackNo 20)
– and the redone one on Gunbroker (SN ???, RackNo 9).

“Winchester Guns” is the new name that “Selling Dads Old Guns” is now using.

I am familiar with the seller – which is why I am stunned the original box is not included with this piece.
I am fascinated to learn that the Calcutta .405’s are not pure fantasy. Has anyone heard of any (original specimens) that had a saddle ring fitted?
Any basis in the seller’s claim that 45 were originally ordered?

I have never seen one with a saddle ring and don’t think that it is original. For me the gun have new stocks, new finish and the additional saddle ring.
What all nown examples have is the four leaf rear sight and blind holes in the front, under section of the barrel, for a bayonet mount.

Wow, all those sales and happy customers after that name change. Hard to believe that nobody has caught on.

The Man is obviously a G damn liar so why would You put any credence in any thing he says in his ads

I thought there was a chance that a shred of what he presented was true. And as it turns out, the Calcutta guns are a real thing. I enjoyed reading about them and the links to actual specimens as I had never known they existed. Now, had the real specimens been .405 take-down .405 SRC’s… that would have really been something!

The number of sales carries over from his previous nom de plumes. GB allows a user name change, but retains the previous feedback and sales data.

Steve,
With that seller, it is wise and a safe bet to assume that very little of what he has written in his ads is accurate.

I just found an interesting, contemporary report of a 1924 tiger hunt that also used Winchester caliber 405 rifles.

I opened this site and got so much junk, then it wanted me to enter stuff and it locked up. Tried it the second time and the same BS.
