QUESTION: Of what significance is a Browning brothers rollmark/stamping on a Winchester 1895?? It is located in small lettering on top of the barrel between the front of the reciever and the rear of the standard dovetail sight. I think the rifle is of 1900 vintage and is in good unaltered condition.
That marking tells us that it was originally shipped to the Browning Brothers shop in partial payment for the Model 1895 patent. There are many collectors that will pay a modest premium for a Winchester with the Browning Brothers hand stamped marking.
