It tends to turn off some collectors since the gun is no longer a gun that could of went West.

Are you able to post any photos of the rifle and of the proof marks?
Given the serial number it seems to be made in a period of time I have been researching a fair bit, 1940/42, with British commercial proofs.
I hope to do an article for the quarterly magazine, on the supply of these Model 1894’s to the UK in this time period.
Bert may be able to give a better idea of its DoM from the polishing room records, I just looked it up on the internet which is not accurate.

The DOM was May, 1940. The Winchester you found is one of nine that I have documented in my research survey that were WW II Lend Lease guns. All of them are in the 1223856 – 1227737 serial number range.
