A while back I inherited an old 220 swift that was built in 1951 by Winchester. It was a ranch truck gun and was/is in very poor shape. No real finish to speak of on the wood, some dents and scratches, the stainless barrel looks like it has several coats of cold blue on it, the weaver k10-60 scope is rusted up, there is a black stain on the stock that my gunsmith thinks might be mold, but the bore is very nice, the throat is good, I have always loved varminting with a pre 64 220, and the gun belonged to an old cowboy I was very fond of.
So of course it has become a project. It will not be original but there is no collector value here anyway. Have a family gunsmith who has done excellent work on pre 64 m70s before and is even able to match the wierd stainless finish on older 220 swifts so it will take time and money but it will be right.
Also sending the weaver off to get rebuilt and have some cch done on the rings and such for a bit of style.
I’ll post it when I get it back.
