I’ve got a very corroded “1892 Winchester” saddle-ring carbine stamped “MADE IN BRAZIL” on the right of the barrel between the rear sight and barrel band. Also on that side but closer to the receiver is marked “38 SPL – 3? MA?”. It looks exactly like a ’92 except for the markings and the front sight is part of the front barrel band. Any idea what I’ve got? Thanks.
Denny,
Does it have a serial number stamped into the bottom of the receiver frame? The odds are very high that it is one of the cheaply made Model 92 knock-offs that infringed on Winchester’s patent, or it could be a Rossi.

The Taurus / Rossi company in Brazil manufactures copies of the Winchester 1892.

I have seen copies marked “El Tigre” or something similar and they were a rough copy as Bert described.

Those were made in Spain, & though maybe not the equal of WRA production, were better than “rough copies.” I recently shot a Rossi copy of a 1906 made about 10 yrs ago, & was really surprised by how smooth & reliable the action worked; finish didn’t equal an original of course, but neither did it cost $1000!
