Brand new to this forum. I recently acquired an 1866 with Brazil markings. Serial 30813. .44 centerfire. Starting research, and asking for advice. Cody has no records for that number. I have several Winchester books, etc. Also trying to backtrack through the estate attorney who disposed of the firearm.
Thoughts suggestions? Thanks.

Hello Jess,
Unfortunately, I believe you are going to be extremely lucky if you can find any shred of information about it. That stated, I highly doubt that it started life as a center fire. More than likely it was converted from rim fire to center fire after it found its way to Brazil.

Jess,
I did some research in the McKracken Library at the Cody Museum and pulled the files on the late 1866’s sold to the Brazilian Govt. ( 1100 I think ) and they were all centerfire. The actual paperwork was in the file for the group, but I don’t remember seeing serial numbers. That’s not to say they are not there.
You could call and have a file pulled and researched by them. Usually there is a fee for that.
Best of luck,
Bill
