I think it’s pretty cool.  Sure it has many stories to tell…

I happened to see this one earlier this evening.  Too much character for me.  I suppose I might warm up to it though.

The serial number is 7591. It was for sale back in 2001 for $1995 by Dixie Gun Works in the same condition it is now.

I love it!!.  I have two great early 1st models, a rifle and a carbine.  I like them a lot, because they’re  pretty to look at.  However, the gun in discussion here is an honest frontier rifle.  It truly has been there and done that.  I’ve always been extremely interested in the “TRUE” history of the old west and have collected hundreds of relics from the California Gold Rush period  to the turn of the century.  This gun is very interesting.

This is a good example of a gun I think you should leave “as-is”. Leave that grease and grime around the screws and wherever else it accumulated and don’t try to clean it. That dust, sweat, oil and grime is part of the gun now. I’d just wipe it down with an oily rag now and then.

Mike –

I agree completely.

Bob – once again, you come through with some interesting background information on this ’73.  You have sure done some detailed tracking – over many years.

Someone left it as is 19 years ago and it still looks the same. Hope the next owner does the same. T/R
