Just a wee bit overpowered for Gophers don’t cha think? Nice shooting though!
The 32-40 was and is a Target cartridge, capable of wonderful accuracy in a Model 1885 high-wall rifle.

When a man wears shorts to hunt dangerous game, and the beast charges…sounds to me as if .32-40 is the perfect oomph!

You don’t have to actually hit the gopher just come close and scare him into cardiac arrest. I used to shot em with a 38-55 black powder Marlin but then again Canadian ground hogs are much much larger and more ferocious than those puny little U.S. gophers. Sure was a lot of fun though what with all the smoke and fire and such.
