I never set out to find or collect these rifles specifically, but after locating the 30-06 first, then the Hornet, when I saw the 270, I did have to acquire it. Going to gun shows and looking at guns is only interesting when there is something worthy to go into your safe.
Today there is so much junk at gun shows, it almost takes 600 tables to have a show big enough to get past Beanie Babies and depression glass to actually see some nice guns. Granted, AR-15’s are legitimate guns as well as Glocks and other plastic guns, but I am not interested. I am tired of so much classless guns as seems to be prevalent anymore.
Seeing this in original condition and configuration, makes the show worthwhile. I did see a second model 1873 with a 26 inch barrel and single set trigger which I needed to compliment the same gun I already have in 38-40, but the condition just wasn’t there. Not bad for 600 tables.
The other part of finding the Pre-war was to locate a scope and base to go on the 270. I came up with a Balvar scope and base. Next is to shoot it and the 30-06, as I had to find a correct peep sight for it to get it to shoot…

I agree that the 270 belongs in your collection, congrats on a nice addition. I gave up on our local gun shows years ago. Thirty plus years ago I went to lots of gun shows, saw many interesting guns and learned a lot by examining them and talking to the vendors. All that has changed. I like the little shows like the one I went to in Waco recently. 95% old guns, no black guns allowed. No modern ammo or loading components. Would have liked to see a few parts vendors but I enjoyed looking at all the old guns.
Not sure I could make it past 600 tables of what passes for a gun show these days but it seems your stamina was rewarded. Nicely done!
