And it’s a short rifle.  And it’s a deluxe:

https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/84/34/winchester-deluxe-model-1894-lightweight-takedown-short-rifle

By the way, I wouldn’t call it 3/4 magazine.

Steve,

It is not a 3/4 magazine. It is a standard length 1/2 mag, but only looks longer because that rifle has the shorter 8-3/8″ forend stock.

No surprise RIA misdescribed this one… again. At first glance it’s clearly not a 3/4 mag. My question is, any recourse after purchase when a gun arrives that isn’t what it was listed as?

Before entering any auction read the “Terms and Conditions” section! RIAC current auction catalog volume 1, page 3, section 10, under GUARANTEE states, “The bold headline of the description is the only written statement RIAC will guarantee as correct. Descriptions in the catalog are opinion.” T/R

Fair enough. Buyer beware.

I think it’s, Know The Rules! If you buy from a big auction house they publish the rules, it’s simple. If you are buying from a gun dealer come to a clear understanding, if you don’t know his reputation ask around, do your duty as a buyer. Know the risk! Take your time! If you don’t know what your looking at, get help!

If you sit down to play poker without knowing the rules, you will loose your money. T/R

Can’t argue any of that TR.

Besides the junk that “some” sellers list with auction companies because they can get away it with a few blurry photos & still find a buyer, this is just another reason for me personally not to go there. You can say no risk no reward but, I’ll stick with hands on or private sale between collectors I trust.

Purchase in an auction (I hate them!) isn’t the same as buying from a dealer.  The universal rule of mail-order gun sales used to be that buyers had a 3-day inspection privilege.

I can handle this one Steve, even being a gun store but not experts in antique Winchesters.

RIA & other premier auction houses there’s no excuse imo.

Another 3/4 mag ?

https://www.collectorsfirearms.com/products/120602-winchester-model-94-32ws-w8077.html

Well, another 2/3 rd magazine carbine erroneously described as a 3/4 magazine.  My impression is it is $3000 over priced but I’m not accounting for the unique “zig zag” scratches.  And what is this B.S. about it being a carbine in the backend and a rifle in the front end?  It is simply a carbine with a special order with the only special order feature being the 2/3 rd mag.  It is all carbine with the carbine barrel band and carbine front and rear sights.  On the other hand, it is a .32 special Cool  I really don’t see anything wrong with it other than the zig zag scratches don’t do it for me.

Steve I love ELW 86’s. This one letters and i like the caliber. Don’t like the cold blue ‘touch up”. Wish I was flush in the gun budget.

I don’t see 9 to 13k in a Winchester 1886 with extensive cold blue touch up.

The letter states 3/4 magazine and the ledger page (look at the line highlighted in yellow) – the first notation is 3/4 mag.

With the extensive cold blue touchup, I don’t see it meeting their bid projection either, but who knows when it comes to these deep pocket bidders – like oldcrankyyankee Wink
