While the factory letter is interesting, I don’t agree totally with my predecessor who wrote the letter in question.

First, I think the gold trims were on the rifle when it left the factory. I pulled up the digital scan of the ledger page and also looked at the ledger book in the archives. “Gold trims” is written exactly where it should be…in the same ink as the rest of the data.

Secondly, “repair and return” is not mentioned anywhere. The January 1888 date is on the record, but it’s just the date and order number right near the shipping date column. Looking closely, there is a faint line drawn through the December 1887 shipping date. Perhaps the January 1888 date IS the original shipping date…???

…just my two cents worth… Stop by and see me if you are going to the Reno show in a couple weeks!

Cheers!!

Thank you, Jesi.

Surely would have been an excellent Valentines present.  –and what a wonderful wife.Frown

Rick.  At least my story doesn’t cost as much as that rifle!  I do take personal checks.

Perhaps someone bought the story, as I noticed this rifle has sold. I can’t remember what Leroy was asking for it but it was UP There.
