Cool guns.  I especially like the one second from the bottom.

Thanks Chuck, that’s a 40-82 with half round barrel. Made 1887.

Nice collection!

What’sthe 4th one down?  Seems uncommon being a Lightweight Rifle but a full length magazine and takedown.  I think most of these didn’t have full length magazines—to reduce weight.

It’s a 45-70 elw take down. I like that one alot as I have a letter from 1968 addressed to the owner I got it from. And it letters with the screw eyes!

Quite honestly my opinion doesn’t count for much but I truly enjoy your illustration of the variety of configurations using specimens in remarkably good condition. Eye candy indeed!

Nice “86’s. I have a question on one I have. Has there been any further research done on 24” barrel ex lites in 45-70 or is this (bottom gun) still considered to be 1 of 12 in this configuration as according to Madl20231023_114648.jpg20231023_114711.jpg

Great grouping Tom!  Thanks for sharing.  I’m thinking the second from the top is a .45-90 with a matted barrel?

Uhmm? all of them! The first one is a fun one as it is a 30″ extra heavy in 45-90.

Oh Steve, Steve, Steve, you have come to know me to well. Of course it is and it has a checkered trigger to boat and letters.

Ian, I would like to add that the bottom one is also a Lwt with a full magazine. Don’t feel they are “rare” just not seen as often especially in 33wcf. But I am sure to be corrected shortly tho. Just fun to collect as the variants are so wide spread.

Yes – the checkered trigger!  That letters!  I had forgotten it had that feature. Very cool – especially when combined with the other features.
