To a rifle I used to own!!!

I was looking at adds for Model 61 rifles so that I could add them into the research survey I am conducting and came across this example in the upcoming Five Star Auction listing on Proxibid.   Checking the serial number I noticed that  I used to own SN 18775!!  BUT instead of the current Short, Long, & Long Rifle configuration the rifle I had was an OB Long Rifle only configuration.  You can compare the images of the Right side of the receiver and especially the wear pattern on the bolt.  It appears that the wood has also been replaced on the auction listed rifle.  Now it is weird that an OB rifle would be changed to a standard rifle but my guess is that the OB barrel now resides on a better looking receiver some place.

My photos from the rifle I sold:

Wow, the world of collectable Winchesters is getting scarier and scarier……

That is an interesting discovery.  Thanks for all the effort you put into tracking Winchesters and thanks for posting the results.  I find your info fascinating.

Merry Christmas and Best Regards,

That’s really odd, and disturbing at the same time. Its becoming a mix and match Frankenchester world.

Your wood is much more attractive than the replacement.  Perhaps it is still with the original barrel.
