I just removed the buttstock from my 1916 vintage Model 1894 SRC (30 WCF) and found the word ‘SPECIAL’ stamped on the head of the stock where it mates to the receiver. The stock is a standard carbine configuration with straight grip and a carbine buttplate. What would make the stock ‘special’? Thanks!

Did you check for non standard length of pull or drop?

That sounds standard to me.
