Does anyone know what the front sight height was on earlier bolt peep Model 71’s? I am looking for the distance from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the beed. I have a 1941 M71 with bolt peep but it seems to shoot pretty high at 50 yards. Wonder if i need a taller front sight? Thanks
From the Winchester component parts catalog of 1942:
"7671 Front Sight Lyman No.31W furnished .260 high, .310 high reg., .360 high………………$1.00"
That is the only front sight offered in my parts catalog for the 71.
How tall is the sight that’s on there? Someone with more experience on 71s can probably tell you more, but if it was me I would try to find a Lyman No.31W slightly taller than the one you have now, if you want to try and keep it factory like and if you like the load you are shooting in the gun.
Hope it helps, Brad
