I recently attended an auction in Michigan that had an 1873 rifle. with what appeared to be factory engraving. On the left of top octagon barrel flat were the words "THE DAISY RIFLE" stamped or engraved below the rear sight. The gun was rough and had no factory letter and carried the serial #403083B. It was listed as having been shipped to Australia. Any light shed on this would be appreciated!
Hello
Based on the serial number the rifle was manufactured during 1891. "THE DAISY RIFLE" stamp was applied by Winchester to rifles ordered by the Lassetter Co in Australia. You can find the same markings on many Model 1892 rifles.http://www.firearmsmuseum.org.au/TranterHistory/Dealers/Lassetter.htm
