I believe that the US Fed Gov’t requires that every firearm brought into the USA from elsewhere (except for antiques) must have an import mark. For Joe Salter’s site, a lot of those Winchesters with import marks have come from Canada (which is a pity for us Canadians). In my opinion, it does hurt the value of a collectable arm.
Extremely common in the military arms collecting side of things. With M1 Garands and M1 carbines serious collectors tend to shy away from one with Import stamps. As to how much it effects value its like any flaw. It all depends on the buyer and what they are willing to pay.
Personally if an import stamp dropped the value on a rifle 10% to me that would just make it closer to affordable. But then I’m on a budget.
