I’m looking for your input on the best peep sight to install on a 1953 Model 94, 30-30. My eyes are getting a little old for the iron sights and am hoping the peep will do better for me. I would like input for the peep with the least amount of change to the rifle.
Thanks in advance
Bill
I think your Model 94 should have two small holes drilled and tapped on the left side of your receiver, up near the top towards the back. They will have filler screws in them right now. The purpose of those holes is to screw on a receiver sight. I have a 1954 Model 94 and I mounted a Lyman receiver sight. It works great for my old eyes, but I’m not overly impressed with its rather flimsy construction. The old Lymans were much stronger. I would recommend taking a look at the Williams receiver sight (don’t know the exact number for a Model 94). From pictures at least, they appear to be better made.

I have the Lyman sight, probably the 56, on the Low Wall that spent so much time behind the kitchen door. I have a Williams on a British Martini. The Williams box indicated that it was for the Winchester 86. Of the two, I far prefer the Lyman. But the Lyman sight is probably of 1950s vintage and the Williams is from the 1990s. That alone probably explains the difference.
The 1" aperture disc is the Target disc (has the smallest peep hole diameter). The smaller the outside diameter the disk has, the larger the peep hole diameter is. Lyman made at least six different sizes of the aperture disks.

Look for an older period peep. Lyman 56a or Redfield 70E or 80E. They pop on eBay from time to time.
I just picked up this for my 1958 ’94.
My 94 (1907) though, has a marbles flip up peep that fits the tang screw holes. I really LOVE it! Puts the peep right up to my eye. I get 1" groups with cast boolits at 100yds with it. She drills em in, and I commend the rear peep as the ticket in proper sighting for me.

This is my Model 1894 OB Sporting Rifle, DOM 1907 also, and the sight on the left is on it these days; an older one. I have both Lyman and Marbles and like certain things about both. I’m also more than happy with the accuracy and did some handloading for it today in fact. Good to hear your 1907 gun is a real shooter too.
