I have seen a handful of posts referencing the ARMAX survey. What is it? When was it done?

Good morning,

The ARMAX survey is a tabulation of the original factory ledgers which documented the production characteristics of the first 353,999 Model 1894 rifles. These are the same ledgers from which a "Factory Letter" for an individual rifle are generated. Much of the information included in the following link is directly derived from the ARMAX survey. http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=245213

Doug,

The full title is "ARMAX THE JOURNAL OF THE CODY FIREARMS MUSEUM" and it was a self published document. The complete Model 1894 survey was contained in Volume V, published in 1995.

In the Gunbroker post that Michael pointed out, I used a fair amount the information contained in the ARMAX in an attempt to dispell many of the misconceptions and false beliefs out there concerning the Model 1894 production statisitics.

The ARMAX THE JOURNAL OF THE CODY FIREARMS MUSEUM, Volume V, published in 1995  contains the detailed Model 1894 survey of the first 353,999 serial number records. These are the surviving records of the Winchester warehouse books, and Volume V has 30 pages of the study of these records.  Recently the CFM gave me permission to reprint these 30 pages which are in the 2014 publication: The Winchester 1894, Survey & Production Information.  In additions to this Survey information, the new publication contains 26 additional pages of details regarding the Winchester Model 1894.  These include information from the recently discovered Polishing Room Serial Number Records, and other sources.  For information regarding this publication contact: [email protected]

Don,

Where can I obtain a copy of the new 2014 publication you mentioned?

Thanks,

Al
